2. Thalys
Next, our second large dog-friendly train is a high-speed train service connecting France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Small dogs and domestic pets can travel for free in a carrier (max size: 55 x 30 x 30 cm). To ensure a comfortable journey for everyone, your pets must not disturb other passengers and may be asked to move if necessary.
What about our jumbo pooches? Don’t worry, larger dogs are welcome too, as long as they are leashed, muzzled, and have a dog fare ticket for a small fee. However, pets are not allowed on the Liège and Soleil trains, and only service animals are permitted on routes to London.

It is the national railway service of France. SNCF welcomes pets on board!
Small pets under 6kg, including dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents, birds, reptiles, and amphibians,s can travel in a carrier (max size: 45 x 30 x 25 cm) for a €7 fee on TGV, Intercity, and TER trains.
Larger dogs are also allowed with a half-price ticket, as long as they are leashed and muzzled and are required to stay close to their owners during the journey.
Be sure to book your pet’s ticket when reserving your own, as cancellations may incur a fee. While pets are not allowed on trains to or from the UK, SNCF offers designated pet-friendly compartments on select trains, ensuring a more comfortable journey for you and your XL companion.
5. Renfe (Spain)
This large dog-friendly train welcomes pets on board with flexible travel options. Small pets like dogs, cats, ferrets, and birds, except chickens, can travel in a carrier (max size: 60 x 35 x 35 cm), while larger dogs require a half-price ticket, must be leashed and muzzled, and are limited to one per passenger.
For overnight trips, a private cabin must be booked.
Renfe has also expanded its pet-friendly program, allowing dogs up to 40 kg on select routes between Madrid, Barcelona, and now Málaga.
Larger dogs must be seated at least two seats apart, with a limit of two per car. Pet owners should check in at least 40 minutes before departure and are responsible for any damage caused by their mighty mutt.
